Show MORMON BATTALION MONUMENT. The following letter has been re celved by The Standard from the commission com-mission having in charg 'he Mormon Dattalion monument campaign that is now on in Utah- Editor Standard: The State or Utah Mormon Battalion Monument Monu-ment commission hereby calls your attention to the opportunity to render a patriotic service to th State of Utah. We ar? enclosing with this a brochure: "Tin- Mormon Mor-mon Battalion and its Monument. ' We ask ou to make a digest of its contents for your paper or publish it in full as you may elect. The entire press of the slate is being asked to respond to this patriotic pa-triotic call and you cannot afford to be lacking in manifestation of state patriotism. "This Battalion of United States soldiers were important factors in the four great movements which made possible the settlement and development of the west, namely "The conquest of northern Mexico. Mex-ico. "The opening of th highway between the east and the west "The discovery of geld in California. Cali-fornia. "The introduction of irrlation to the Anglo Saxon race. "Tin Be great events in which the Battalion participated ate certainly cer-tainly worthy of the comuciuora-tion comuciuora-tion that will be gi on them in the proposed monument. "The state legislature has appropriated ap-propriated 1100,000, provided that a like amount shall be secured from other sources. It woulJ be a crime on the part of the people of Utah not to avail themselves of this generous appropriation. "We ask you to co operate with the auxiliary monument committee commit-tee appointed for your county in raising the allotment assigned to it and thus render a patriotic service.
