Show II STRIKE SPIRIT IS ON THE INCREASE. 1 Keep down the strike fever. Hard working men, who spend their money as they go, are in an unequal conflict when they challenge ! strong, powerful corporations to a lest of endurance, in which money ' laughs at hunger. At present there is a restless feeling and not a few big concerns in the nation are hoping there will be just enough upset so that men will get down on their uppers and poverty will peep in at the windows win-dows of the masses, because when distress comes men lose their power of resistance and are made amenable to rigid requirements, W and unionism weakens under the strain. The strike is a radical weapon, and the threat of a tie up often ha a salutary effect, but as a widespread disease the strike is the most dangerous affliction that can possess the laboring element. While the striker vorries and finally grows gaunt, the captain u,f industry goes yachting and, in his pursuit of pleasure, forgets the battle being waged. Feeding on the fat of the land, the boss says, "Let them strike!" knowing fhat he can continue to enjoy life, whatever what-ever be the fate of the sturdy son of toil. There is a better way than striking. Why not try voting? The laboring man can absolutely control this country by resorting to the ballot box. He must be fair, having a guiding policy of "Live and let live." He must be just to his employer. Capital must be encour-i encour-i aged to reinvest. And with those guiding principles, his rule of the nation will be one of supreme contentment. |
