Show oo ' world's mm v J NEW YORK. Nov. 22. Oils and shippings were almost the only exceptions excep-tions to thc further liquidation of stock today, the balance of the list again reflecting re-flecting reconstruction conditions. Sales approximated 650,000 shares. United States Steel declined to below be-low par and acute weakness in low priced motors and utilities marked the final hour. The closing was heavy. Selling of speculative issues, mainly main-ly motors and coppers was resumed at the active opening of today's stock market but this was more than balanced bal-anced by a broad demand for representative repre-sentative shares. Losses of 1 to 2 points in Studebaker. Distillers' and obscure specialties were balanced by gains of 1 to 5 points in oils, southern south-ern pacific. Reading, Bethlehem, and Crucible Steels and Marine preferred. United States Steel rose a substantial substan-tial fraction and ihc leather issues were decidedly strong. Hide and Leather Lea-ther preferred advancing four points. Three stocks, namely United States Steel, Southern Pacific, and Mexican Petroleum, furnished one quarter of the first hour's moderately large dealings deal-ings in which initial gains were generally gen-erally enhanced. There was considerable consid-erable short covering in some of the rails and other active issues recently under bearish pressure. Conditions changed very abruptly later, tho entire list giving way and leaving little or nothing of the early advance. Rails, industrials, and metals met-als reacted 1 to 2 points. Mexican Petroleum four and utilities and miscellaneous mis-cellaneous issues 1 to 2. but shippings ship-pings held steady with a brisk, rally in General Motors. .
