Show U. S. CASUALTIES PLACED AT 150,000 WASHINGTON. Nov. 22 Close estimates es-timates made today In official quarters indicate that total casualties in thc American army in foreign service up to thc day hostilities ceased were about 105,000. It is understood that there are about 10,000 casualties, details of which have not been received, and that there are good reasons why previous, estimates esti-mates should be revised. It was slated slat-ed that there has been nothing like a ratio of losses in battle by which totals to-tals could be conjectured. It is certain that the last battles in which the Americans were ongagod, and especially those by which Pershing's Persh-ing's forces crossed the upper reaches of the Meuse, were desperate engagements engage-ments in which thc American losses wore heavy. The right bank of the Meuse was reached by the use of pontoons pon-toons in the face of tremendous artillery ar-tillery fire from the east bank. The fighting Is said to have been more intense in-tense than that in which the marines of the First division participated in tho first nttacks of the allies near Chateau Thierry. |
