Show Ij ' OYSTER BEDS II . BEAR RIVER BAYj These oyster beds in Bear River bay of Great Salt Lake are to becomo a reality, according to R, H. Siddoway, state fish and game commissioner, who has returned from the bay. Tile, to which the oysters can attach themselves, them-selves, are to be placed in the bay. It is probable, Mr. Siddoway says, that the tile planting will be in charge I of. an oyster expert representative ol j the United States fisheries department, j A suggestion to this end has come i irom the biological survey at Wash-j Wash-j ington, and the fish and game commis-' , sioner states that he will undoubtedly take advantage of the tentative offer. Analysis of the waters of different parts of Bear River bay, made at Intervals In-tervals during the past few months, have demonstrated their fitness for oyster culture, it is sta'tcd, and any steps which the fish and game department depart-ment will hereafter take to prepare the beds for planting in favorable sec- lions will be of such advised character that success will he assured, if such I can be achieved at all. Wild ducks, geese and swans are abundant in tho region about the bay, Mr. Siddoway says, and the birds are all in splendid condition. oo , |
