Show Dill HORSE LOOMING LARGE i ON THE GUBERNATORIAL HORIZON Republican Leaders Forming New Combination With Object of Proposing Compromise Candidate Who Would Be Acceptable Ac-ceptable to Divisions in Party Due to Prohibition Issue; Attention Focused on Outcome of Primaries in City and County Tonight. On the assumption that harmony In the slate, congressional and county conventions will g0 a long way toward to-ward insuring a solid Republican vote for Charles E. Hughes, the presidential presiden-tial nominee, and at the same time draw heavily from the ranks of Utah Democrats, many of whom are said to be dissatisfied with the "Mexican' policy' of the present administration and therefore "dead willing" to cast a ballot at the November election for the nominee who will represent the best interests of all the people. Republican leaders in Utah have formed a new combination which proposes pro-poses to start a dark horse in the race for the gubernatorial nomination. nomina-tion. This information, coming from authoritative sources, presages some surprises at the Republlcan state convention Tuesday August 8. The movement for the selection of a compromise candidate, it is said, is not based on selfish motives, nor representative rep-resentative of any coterie of politicians. politi-cians. It is therefore defined as activity ac-tivity designed to preclude the possibility possi-bility of party disruption at the November No-vember election through preventing, at. the state convention, the threatening threaten-ing break over the prohibition issue. Furthermore, It is stated that persons per-sons dissatisfied with the Spry administration, ad-ministration, but still clinging to the belief that he is more able to promote the interests of Utahns than any other oth-er candidate proposed, and others not willing to give sanction at the polls to; any candidate in the present dou ble-sided alignment, are preparing to join the movement for a compromise candidate, whose integrity and equipment equip-ment not only will insure a capable administration, but will look toward oiling the political waters that have been stirred by the injection of the liquor current. While a fight for the gubernatorial I nomination is imminent, it is pointed 'out, that there is not one of the candidates can-didates for the gubernatorial nomination, nomi-nation, who would not sacrifice personal per-sonal ambition, for the best interests of the party, should the compromise candidate be proposed.
