Show oo- CHLORAL HYDRATE IS FOUND M MI'S POSSESSION W. Tracy, a transient, was bound over to the district court this morn-ing, morn-ing, by Municipal Judge George S. Barker to stand trial on.tho charge of having chloral hydrate in his possession, pos-session, an Indictable misdemeanor. His bail was set at $100. Tracy was taken into custody on the night of July 25th by Patrolman W. L. Moore, on a charge of disturbing the peace, It being alleged that he knocked a man down In front of a lower Twenty-fifth Twenty-fifth street saloon, shortly before his arrest. He was found guilty of this charge yesterday afternoon, "and ater being set at liberty was Immediately re-arrested on tho more serious charge. Testimony given by Patrolman Moore this morning, was that, while bringing the defendant to the station, ho caught him in the act of "ditching" a small bottle of liquid that was afterward after-ward analyzed by a local druggist and found to contain chloral. This was placed in evidence. No testimony was Introduced by the defense. Attorney George Halverson acted as counsel for the defense and County Attorney Joseph E. Evans conducted the prosecution. prose-cution. The regular session of the police court preceded the preliminary hearing hear-ing of the Tracy case. John Wolf, Alex Hill and Frank Hoggan, drunks, were each sentenced to serve five days in jail. W. F. Newton, who appeared to be on the verge of a physical break-1 down, due to a protracted spree, was given ten days under the care of Jailer B. B. Wilson. Belle Close, pleaded guilty to a charge of drunkenness and, as she had been before the court on a prevl-ous prevl-ous occasion, was sentenced to pay a fine of $10 or to serve ten days In jail. For operating an automobile without a license number attached, M. Cazler was fined ?5. Cazler is employed at a local garage and, In passing sen- , tence, the judge stated that the court could not draw distinctions between the public and the automobile dealers and thought, If anything, that the latter lat-ter should set the example in complying com-plying with the state law concerning the operation of motor vehicles. W. J. Gavey pleaded guilty to attempted at-tempted assault and was sentenced to serve five days In jail. |
