Show SKULL FIHGTIiRED By AUTOMOBILE Salt Lake, April 5. D. C. Hoover, a wealthy cattleman of Plainview, Texas, was struck and severely Injured In-jured by an automobile driven by A. V. Olsen, a salesman for tho Randall-Dodd Randall-Dodd Automobile company, at 9:45 last night. He was rushed to the police emergency hospital, where he is in a serious condition. He suffered a fracture of the skull, and it Is thought internal Injuries'. A. V. Olsen, driver of the car, was arrested and taken to police headquarters head-quarters four hours later, after Captain Cap-tain Riley M. Beckstead had questioned question-ed witnesses. Mr. Hoover arrived in Salt Lake early yesterday morning in company with a woman giving the name of Mrs. Eula Harbison. The young woman wom-an said that she has known Mr. Hoov-' er from childhood, and that she Is accompanying him on a trip to San Francisco and Los Angeles. They are registered at the Moxum hotel. Shortly after 8 o'clock laBt night they left the hotel to go to a near-by cafe for x dinner. As they were crossing the intersection of Fourth South and Main streets on the way back to the hotel, the car struck Hoover and bore him to the pavement. The woman escaped by jumping backward quickly. Mr. Hoover was lifted into a passing pass-ing machine by police officers and citizenB and rushed to the hospital. Dr. W. Scott Keyting was called. 1e mado a thorough examination of the man and did what he could to alleviate his suffering. It was at first decided to remove Mr. Hoover at once to a local hospital, but Dr. Keytlng suggested that he be kept under close observation In the emergency emer-gency hospital for the night At an early hour this morning his condition was unchanged. He has been In a state of semi-consciousness since the accident. Because of the man's unusual physique phy-sique it is hoped that he will recover, re-cover, although physicians admit the uncertainty of tho case. According to Mrs. Harbison, Mr. Hoover ds without relatives in Texas. His wife died several years ago.
