Show DB BARK NOT TORPEDOED Lumber Ship Sank as Result of Severe Weather Crew Rescued by French Steamer. New York, April 5. Two American seamen who arrived on the Frenoh steamship Espagne from Bordeaux today, deny that the Danish bark Claudia, on which they were members of tho crew, was torpedoed by a submarine sub-marine as stated in a maritime report sent out from Copenhagen, on March 26. The Claudia sank on March 23 on her way, lumber laden, "from Jacksonville, Jackson-ville, Fla., to Fleetwood, England. According Ac-cording to George Cole ot St Louis and Gustav Mendel of Now York, the two seamen who arrived here today, ,the bark's plight resulted, from severe weather during which she sprang a 'leak. The crew was rescued by a French steamer and taken to Bordeaux. |
