Show PRIYER SUBJECT OF A SEION "Prayer" was the subject of Pastor W. M. Adams, president of the Seventh Sev-enth Day Adventist conference of the state of Utah, last night in a sermon at the tent, Washington avenuo and Twenty-sixth street He said in part. "The way to get acquainted with air individual Is to talk with him. Now that is the way to get acquainted with the Lord. God speaks to us in I lis word, and wc answer in prayer. We should be sure to let God do some of the talking, and study the Bible, and we should not forget to do some talking ourselves. We are admonished admon-ished by Paul to 'pray always.' Not that we should bo onour knees con-tlnuallj'. con-tlnuallj'. but the Ghristian should have that education, and should be so acquainted with the Cord that whenever temptation, r affliction and trouble come, or when council and help is needed tho mind naturally goes out to God. "There are three manners of prayer spoken of in the scriptures secret, family worshipind the public prayer. "The Lord says, speaking of the secret se-cret prayer, 'When thou prayest, enter en-ter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to the Father which is in secret; and the Father which seeth thee in secret shall reward re-ward thee opeuly,' Matt 6:6: The secret prayer is the prayer that should not be neglected. Those who know how to prevail with God In secret will know what It is to overcome the power of the evil one. The longest prayers should be the secret prayers. Those who know what it is to talk to God in secret will hnve no trouble In offering an Intelligent prayer when called on in public. "It Is a sad mistake for parents to neglect lamny worsuip. we reau 'Pour out thy fury upon the heathen i that knows thee not, and upon the families that call not on thy name; I for they have eaten up Jacob, and devoured de-voured him and made him desolate Jer. 10:25. The father then, as the head and priest of the house, should recognize the responsibility that rests upon him and be diligent to "Train up I the ohildren In tho way they should f go.' Many children will be lost in I that eternal day because the parents j have not been careful In teaching j them the way or truth, and that they I must look 'to God to help them to j overcome sin. The parents who are I faithful in the" Instruction of tholr chil- j ,dren in the things of God, and trie! H Inecessity. of" prayer -will eventually IH find that there will be children in , jH the kingdom that otherwise would H have been lost. ' H "Public prayer is also taught in thei H Bible. Solomon had made a brazen1 H scaffold, of five cubits long and five Il cubits broad, and three cubits high.) til and had set it in tne midst of the' 'll court; and upon It he stood, and! '1 kneeled down upon his knees before' fiH all the congregation of Israel, and; UH spread forth his hands toward heav- nl en.' 2 Chro. 6:18 Perhaps of va11 H prayers the public prayer is made the 'll longest, and becomes the most for- H mal. The secret -prayer should be , J the long prayer. If this were the ;; H case, there would not be so many long , j public prayers. God looks upon the ill heart. The sincere desire of the 1 soul expressed in simple words is H the prayer that is most pleasing in I H the sight of heaven. 'The broken and . H contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not Hl despise.' May God help us to realize H the privilege of communion with him jH and eventually having become ac- j lH quainted with him here, and known H the power of God to overcome sin in IH the flesh, we may have the happy jH privilege of reigning with him in the 1 world to come." Il Pastor Adams will speak tonight on H the small things that enter into the H life that robs the Christian 'of the j 1 blessings that might be his to ezperl- H |
