Show AT THE ALHAMBRA. After a brlof season of eight weeks in Ugaou, Wiui iua Aiuaiuuia luka- Ire as its homo, Orpheum vaudeville will sever Its second acquaintanceship with local theatregoers tonight. In a the program that will mark the exit of the Martin Beck circuit entertainers, entertain-ers, there will be much to pleasantly remember,. as it was witnessed twice yesterdaj' by large audiences and pronounced pro-nounced without a flaw. Of first Importance in tho bill is a sketch presented by Harry Beresford & Co., entitled "Twenty Odd Years," in which the noted comedian and two clever juveniles appear to fine advantage. advan-tage. The juveniles are Isabel Men-dosa, Men-dosa, a pretty and pleasing young ingenue, in-genue, with auburn curls that go well with the role she portrays, and Fred-crick Fred-crick Howard, a young actor who puts all the life necessary into his work. Harry Whall also has a part in tho sketch, a small one, and fits well into the picture. An entertainer who appears all by herself, but in a multicipliclly of characterizations, char-acterizations, wins second honors on dhe program. She is Nolilie V Nichols Nich-ols and, in a clever song, challenges someone to name her nationality. There have been other comediennes at the Orpheum this season and good ones, but Miss Nichols has the "edge" on them all through possessing a splendid mezzo-soprano voice. This talent is brought into play in tho interpretation in-terpretation of some new songs which of themselves are worthy of atten tion. Her character songs are equally equal-ly good and every number given was encored. The ultra-modern dance also has an inning this week, with tho Gardner trio as interpreters. Tho trio, two women and a man have their act admirably ad-mirably worked out, and being finished fin-ished exponents of the art, their work is well received. Their first number, num-ber, a "hesitation" waltz, is one of the prettiest aud most graceful that has been seen. Gerald and Clark, are a frolicsome duo, with a fund of songs and comedy com-edy that creates continuous laughter. Both have excellent voices for the typo of act they present, and this goes a long way toward making it a success. They might be reminded, however, that tho line "Do you walk much?" is quite familiar around the circuit. Margot Francois and Partner, have a novelty offorlng in the way of acrobatics acro-batics that "is worthy of praise. The lady performs some seemingly impossible im-possible feats on a pair of stilts and tho man is an exceptionally funny "Bolivar." Laughter and applause Is almost continuous while this act is being performed. The Flemlugs, a pair of strong and well trained athletes first present several sev-eral "creations in alabaster" and then drop tho poses for a further exhibition exhibi-tion of strength before the curtain. A fine musical treat Is givon by Hans Hanke, a master pianist. He makes the audience work a bit too hard for encores, however. |
