Show oo SUDMARINES SINK NEUTRAL VESSELS Torpedoing of One American and Several Norwegian Steamers Reported by British Cruiser. Now York, Aug. 14. The American steamship Scaconnet, arriving here today from Gothenburg, reported being be-ing stopped by a British cruiser on the way home and told of the torpedoing tor-pedoing of an American steamer and several Norwegian steamers by a German submarine in latitude 61, longitude lon-gitude 12. The date of the torpedoing and the name of the American ship wero not given by the British cruiser. It Is believed, however, that it was the steamer Leolanaw which was torpedoed torpe-doed and sunk off tho Orkney islands on July 27. On her outward voyage the Scaconnet Scacon-net was detained at Kirkwall by British Brit-ish authorities on Juno 26 and taken f to New Castle where 900 tons of her cargo was discharged aud sent to a prize court Tho vessel was released and allowed to resume her voyage to Gothenburg on July 9.
