Dallas, Texas, Aug 17 Only meager meag-er Information was available at noon today concerning the terrific tropical storm that yesterdaj struck the Texas Tex-as coast, flooding Galveston and then sweeping inland doing heavy damage to crops and farm properties. So far as known, no lives were lost Galveston, Houston and Beaumont, three of the principal cities of south , Texas, were still cut off from wire communication. A brief ' wireless despatch, de-spatch, stating that Galveston, after weathering one of the worst storms in fifteen years, was under five feet of water, brought the only definite information in several hours as to the fate of the coast city, concerning which many rumors had been afloat. The Galveston despatch made no mention of loss of life- It said the . five feet of water in the streets was ' slowly draining off and that fires, probably the result of flood damage, had been placed under control. The despatch said also that the United Slates transport McClellan had broke from her moorings and drifted half a mile seaward. Wireless stations at Port Arthur and Fort Crockett were reported out , of commission. While wire communication with ! Beaumont and Houston remained cut off, little anxiety Avas felt for these i cities as they are situated some distance dis-tance from the coast and are consid- ' cred snfe from high gulf waters. Storm Sweeps Inland. I While more definite reports con-corning con-corning damage along the coast were lacking, the storm aparently had i swept Inland. No reports concerning the inland storm havoc were available avail-able United States weather bureau reports said that from available reports re-ports the storm must have moved northeast, inland heading for central Texas Barometer disturbances indicate indi-cate that the storm might be similar to the storm of 1900 which swept over Galveston destroying the lives of S.000 persons and then traveled northward north-ward through Oklahoma to Kansas and Nebraska. Waco. Texas, Aug. 17. The Missouri, Missou-ri, Kansas & Texas railroad received a report from its Galveston offices this morning that 100 feet of the causewaj' at Galveston had been washed out. No further particulars were given. Dallas. Texas Aug. 17. At 7:43 this morning, San Antonio and Austin had been added to the isolated cities in Texas, indicating the tropical storm which struck Galveston yesterday yester-day was working a considerable distance dis-tance inland. It was stated sta-ted at the offices of the Santa Fe railroad here early today that a message mes-sage had been received from Galveston Galves-ton saying that a large vessel had blown through the causeway connecting connect-ing Galveston with the main land. Two work trains were ordered to Galveston to assist repair the damage. dam-age. Waco, Texas, Aug. 17. W. D. Az-belle Az-belle of Waco, returning home this morning from Galveston, reported that water was running over the causeway when he left at 2 p. m. yesterday. yes-terday. They waited, this morning at Bremond four hours for a train leaving Galveston at 5:30 yesterday afternoon, but this train had not been heard from. Topeka, Kans.. Aug. 17. The general gen-eral offices of the Atchison, Topeka ,& Santa Fe today received a message i from the agent at Wallis, Texas, to the nearest point to Galveston, with which the local officials were able to communicatei that the storm was still raging there, while the wind had a velocity of 75 miles an hour. Temple, Texas, Aug. 17. Santa Fe officials this afternoon said they have had no communication from Galveston Gal-veston since 6 o'clock last night A fierce gale is blowing here and rain is falling.
