Show DISPUTED PATENT CASEJETTLED Heirs of Rev. Hannibal B. Goodwin Win Suit Against Eastman Kodak Co. Now York, N. Y., March 11. A decision de-cision upholding the patent claims of the Rev. Hannibal B, Goodwin, against the Eastman Kodak company of Rochester, Roch-ester, involving millions of dollars in royalties, was handod down by the United Stales circuit court of appeals yesterday, Judge John R. Hazel giv. ing the opinion, Tho decision says that "The Reverend Rev-erend Hanlbal B. Goodwin ig undoubt-edlv undoubt-edlv tho inventor and entitled to all the benefits of the basic patent on photographic films." Millions Involved. Goodwin died more than thirteon years ago, a poor man. The profits of the Eastman Kodak company on the disputed patent havo been estimated to run Into the millions. milli-ons. If the decision is not overruled by tho supreme court, Goodwin's widow nnd two children who are living in Brooklvn, will be entitled to back royalties for the whole period tho Eastman company has according tc. the decision been infringing on the putent Goodwin an Amateur Chemist. For many years the Rev. Hannibal Goodwin was rector of the Episcopal House of Prayer at Newark, N. J. He was fond of dabbling in photography and was an amateur chemist. Jn 18S7 he discovered a process for making photographic films and applied ap-plied for a patent. Tho Eastman company contested his claims and it was not until 189S that tho patent office of-fice finally issued tho patent. A suit against the Eastman Kodak company was instituted. But Mr. Goodwin died while his suit was pending. The litigation was carried on by the Goodwin heirs aud administrators admin-istrators after the inventor's death. nn |
