Show JAPANESE SHOULD BE ASSISTED. The inhabitants of an entire Island in the Japanese group have been destroyed de-stroyed or rendered horaele&9 and helpless by the terrible volcanic out bursts of Sakura-Jlma. There is extreme destitution and appeals have been sent out for aid. There should be a response from America from Utah. That the Japanese themselves are not slow to respond to cries of dls-treBs dls-treBs in other lands is brought to our attention by John P. Irish of San Francisco who, in a communication, says: "When the foundations of San Francisco Fran-cisco were shaken by earthquake and shaven by fire, and tens of thousanas of her people needed food and shelter and their cry rose to the world, Japan was the only foreign country that heard and heeded, and sent to the local lo-cal relief committee 250,000, which was used to feed and clothe and shelter shel-ter the stricken people. Now Japanese Japan-ese are dead, dying and distressed. Famine followed by earthquake and volcanic eruptions, repeat, with tragic emphasis the sorrows of San Francisco." |
