There l , has not been a hitch in the workings jjj of the machinery in the four factories I the entire run. h fter a successful ear's run, the Burley factory has closed and the factories at Lew iston, Logan and Ogden Og-den are expected to finish the regular L 3ugar making process about the middle mid-dle of January. All the factories except ex-cept that at Burley will then take up the osmose process which will require re-quire about 75 days The latter process pro-cess is the manufacturing of "brown sugar.' which is mace from the mo- lasses residue. Mr Taylor states that the suear this year is the best that can be made in any part of the world and that it will be well received on the marKet in competition with the sugar su-gar products from all parts of the m world. The four factories of the malga-mated malga-mated Sugar company tuis year, after handling about 250.000 tons" of beets, will produce about 30,000 tons of sugar, su-gar, or 580.000 bags. M The Ogden factory Is consuming y, about 68.000 tons of beets. Eighteen thousand tons more were raised In this district but the extra tonnage was ' . shipped to the northern plants. Bl The company Is making the same plans for the 1914 crop as they hae done in former years and the officers w hope that the proposed tariff reduc- tion will not materially interfere with future operations. However, they are doubtful over the outlook and enter- tain fears for the future of beet su- gar business. It is possible, they say, . that the sentiment of the people may . change in the course of a short time to the point where congress may be induced to retain at least the pres ent small tariff 0y |
