Show oo CANCERS AND TUBERCULOSIS CURED IN OGDEN. The secretary of the Interior is about to lssne an order withdrawing all radium lands of the public domain from entry. The object is to conaerve the radium as a means of treatment of cancer, the rays of the rare metal having proved to be a cure for that terrible disease which today is eating at the vitals of one In every ten per sons. Secretary Lane, in his appeal to congress con-gress for authority to conduct esplora tions and researches for radium, says: "Radium is found in ores carrying uranium and vanadium, which aro used extensively In the arts, and processes pro-cesses by which it is extracted are secret. A process has been invented by the chemists in our bureau of mines which promises, from the lab oratory experiments thus far made, to be successful. LTnder the endowment endow-ment of two Americans, a building is now being erected in Denver In which an effort will be made to prove the commercial possibility of this American Ameri-can process If successful, the process pro-cess will be given to the world, and all of the radium secured over and above a small minimum will be the property of the United States and will be put into the hands of the United Uni-ted States public health service for public use." Let the good work go on. If there Is a possibility of radium being placed within the reach of all as a means of treating diseases, the end may justify the means. But is radium doing more than the X-ray In destroying destroy-ing skin diseases? With the new X-ray. invented by WTilliam D Cool-idge. Cool-idge. an electrician of Schenectady. N. Y., a more powerful and penetrating penetrat-ing ray is obtained, which should Increase In-crease the curative properties. An Ogden doctor had as a patient a Wyoming man whose nose had been perforated by cancer and whose eyelids eye-lids and one side of his face was being be-ing attacked. The X-rays were applied ap-plied during a period of three months and last Saturday the stranger departed de-parted for home with his sores healed and his heart made light. Even tuberculosis of the throat and of the larger lymphatic glands of the neck Is being successfully treated in Ogden by the X-ray. Our opinion is that the X-ray can do all that radium is doing. |
