Show TWO BLOCKS OF NEW BUSINESS HOUSES With the coming of the first few warm days building operations have begun with a rush. Th- lumber dealers deal-ers and brick manufacturers are extremely ex-tremely optimistic and declare that Ogden Is to experience one of the most prosperous years In Its hlftor It Is estimated that two solid business blocks are to bo built this year. A visit to the offices of architects gives one an insight into what Is in store for the city in the shape of new buildings. Not only are their tables piled high with blue prints for business busi-ness blocks, but numerous residence plans are In the course of construc tion ana otner business men are planning plan-ning new fronts to their buildings. Within six months it is extremely probable that the streets of Ogden .ill present a strikingly different appearance ap-pearance than at present Teh optimistic feeling does not exist ex-ist in the hearts of business men and contractors alone, but has extended to the artisans, the brick masons, carpenters, car-penters, painters, cement workers an.' in fact, all trades connected with building work. By glancing around the city, they can see work for them selves for a long time to come Will Add a Story. Among the improvements to begin nt once is additional work to be done on tb eUowell property, the plans for which have Just been completed by Leslie Hodgson The plans call for new fronts to be built on the Cull 1 drug store and the Crystal saloon as well as a new facade for the entire Howell block, extending 66 1 2 feet along W ashington avenue An additional addi-tional story is to be added to the Howell How-ell building, making that building four stories high and the upper floors will be made Into modern hotel rooms. GO in number The basement Is to be lowered several feet and will be m ted up with marble, having marble vestibules and steps leading dou n from the street, lu the basement will ! be a cafe, a billiard hall which is to 'be fitted up in such style that it will be a popular place for the ladles who desire to learn that fascinating game The rear of the basement will be used for the stock rooms for the merchants on the ground floor and there will be B common receiving room with B freight elevator leading to the back of the stores A large central vacuum heating plant will be installed which will not only heal the Howell property proper-ty on Washington avenue, but will supply the Oxford hotel and Gleu Brothers' store on Hudson avenue. The architect states that the thr" 1 upper floors of the Howell building ..ill be made Into the most modern of hotel apartments and that the new frontB to be placed facing Washington Washing-ton avenue will be of the most mod ,rn crystal glass and steel. For the ! store "fronts alone 12,500 worth of 'steel has been ordered. The Improvements Improve-ments In all will cost in the neighborhood neigh-borhood of $40,000 Peery Hotel. According to Architect Eher F. Piers, the contracts for the Peery ho tel to be built on Hudson avenue will be awarded next week and the building build-ing work will begin at once The building, which wll lconslst of two Itojies, will be of the most modern type, the finest style of brick to be used The block will have a frontage ou Hudson avenue near Twenty-fourth Twenty-fourth street of 115 feet and will ex tend back toward the east for 46 feet The ground floor will be used for stores and the upper rooms as a hotel. The cost of the building will reach about $30,000. Heywood Garage. The brick work on the Heywood garage at Twenty-sixth street and Washington avenue is about complet-ied complet-ied The feature of the building, according ac-cording to the architect, Julius Smith, jwlll be the turntable for the convenience conven-ience of those w ho patronise the garage gar-age There is only one other estab lishment in the state that has such apparatus. There will be no supports extending down from the ceiling and the garage will be the second largest in tbe city. Entrance will be from the front on Washington avenue and from the rear on Twenty-sixth street. White Building. The excavating work on the White building is going on rapidly and will ' be cornp1! ted uithin a short time, ready lor the foundation to be laid. Five-Story Building. The contract for the Klesel five-story five-story building is now being considered consider-ed by Fred J, Kiesel and It Is expected ex-pected that he will give the order for the work to begin at once in order or-der to take advantage of the early spring weather. Eccles Building. As soon as tbe state supreme court hands down the decision regarding tbe south wall of tbe Eccles building the work on that eight story building will begin with a rush. The steel work necessary for the construction is now in the city Parry Estate. The Parry estate intends to begin ;it f nce on the rebuilding of the Parry building at Washington and Twenty-third Twenty-third street, the Knights or Pythias will begin building operations soon and the residence district is dotted with residences In dlfferr-nt stages of construction. C. F. Grout is to erect a five-room residence on Monroe avenue, opposite the High school, at a cost of $4,000. |
