Show I BULLET TAKEN I FROM OFFICER MURPHY At the Dee hospital this morning the bullet was taken from Patrolman J. J. .Murphy's cheek The operation was r not difficult and the wound was found not to be serious. No bones were broken and the flesh wound in the cheek and Jaw was not very deep It Is stated that Mr Murphy will b? able to attend to his police duties again in a short time At a late hour the patrolman wa8 reported to be resting easily and recovery re-covery is predicted within a few days. Chief of Tollce V. I. Norton stated today that he believes Watson Is the man who did the shooting. Watson is the negro who wa6 found in a rooming room-ing house with a bandage covering a fresh cut When taken to the hospital hospi-tal yesterday afternoon Murphy slated slat-ed thai he believed the prisoner to he the man wanted According to Chief Norton: Watson answers the description given by Murphy and he is being held to await i Hither Identification Watson Is unable to give a good explanation ex-planation of how he received the wound and even though the city physician phy-sician stated yesterdaj that the wound was 48 hours old, there is a possibility that the wound was Inflicted later The police have been working on another clew It Is known that a negro ne-gro named Eugene Brjan was recently recent-ly released from the penitentiary and. on the night preceding the robbery, had purchased a revolver from a pawnshop Bryan Is a "hop head' and was flourishing the gun on Thursday Thurs-day evening In the negro district. From the actions of the negro In the grocery store it is believed that he Ib 8 drug fiend and the police are making efforts to locate Bryan. |
