CHRISTIAN UNITY I 1 rev samuel eliot on variety of human thought and life new york ov 13 A armon on christian unity was delivered yesterday at all souls charch by rev dr samuel A eliot president ot tha american association and son of the president of harvard university ver sity dr eliot rev edward everett hale and former secretary ot the navy john D lone were not accepted as delegates to the inter church conference for federation which meets in new york this month dr allol said in pan the federation of christian people cannot be secured on the basis of intellectual tel agreement agie ement shall we not rather try the method of fraternal good will the acceptance of certain broad and universal principles of fellowship low ship the brotherhood 0 mutual service instead of lamenting tue differences feren ces among men let us thank god for the variety and fullness of human thought and life no one wants churches shorn of individuality let them retain their peculiar traditions but let them submit all to tho alchemy of brotherly love dr eliot speaking to the reporters after the service said that the uni would make no effort to be sea the conference he added there is this point however the congregational delegates are coming here with the idea and it isa very large one I 1 must say that the conference should not be conducted on a doctrinal basis they do not relisha conference on basis anymore than do we I 1 imagine if the matter comesup doctrinal point is carried it would theoretically serve to admit us
