Show OPPOSITION TO LATE CLOSING David O. McKay, O.O. Richards, O. A. Kennedy, Hyrum Belnap, B. F. Thomas and Others Appear Before the Oity Commissioners to Register Their Protests. The, Betterment Leaguers had their day before the board of city commissioners commis-sioners this morning and they Improved Improv-ed the opportunity to protest against the petition of business men asking for tiro changing of the closing hour for saloons at night from 9 to 12 o'clock-. Among the protestauts were David O. McKay, F V. Fisher, C. C Richards, S. J. Griffin, E. A. Olson, O. A. Kennedy, Hyrum Belnap, O M. Sanderson and B. F. Thomas. The gontlcmcu contended that the liquor election of 1910 fixed Irrevocably Irrevo-cably the closing time for saloons from the fact that the Issues were Joined largely on that question. They claim that it was tacitly understood that If Ogden should not go "dry," the hour for closing would not be later than 9 p m They said that had that not been the understanding It Is more than likely that the city would have been voted "dry." The protestants .also stated that the issues were pretty pret-ty well defined In the city election of last fall and that the people understood un-derstood that If certain persons vrcro elected to the board of commissioners there would be no change in the closing clos-ing hour. The commissioners will give both sides due consideration when the petition pe-tition of the business men comtA up for final action, but no one can foretell fore-tell the outcome. |
