Show FIVE SHOTS FIRED AT BURGLARS After an exciting chase, in which fi shots were fired, the police, at an early hour this morning, ejected the capture or George Croegan, who Is believed to be Implicated in the burglary bur-glary of the McBrlde second-hand store, the robbery of William Getz and a number of other pieces of criminal work that have occured during the past ten days. The partner of Croegan Croe-gan Is still at large and the imprisoned impris-oned suspect refuses to give tho offi-cers offi-cers any Inrormation which might lend to his apprehension Detectlo Tom Burk and Sergeant Arthur Mohlman gained Information this morning that two suspicious characters had registered at the Carlisle Car-lisle rooming house on lower Twenty -firth street. Investigation caused the officers to connect the men with recent re-cent robberies and it wa6 decided to arrest them as suspects. When the ofricers knocked on the door of the men's room, a voice on the inside answered that it would bo opened in a minute. Instead of the door being opened tho waiting officers heard a great deal of noise in the room andv suspected that the men wore not going go-ing to submit peacefully One of the officers ran to the back of the hotel and was just In time to see the men loap from the window of their room. Calling to his companion, compan-ion, he started In pursuit of the men. Orders for the fleeing men to halt had no effect and Detective Burk opened fire, discharging four shots. Sergeant Mohlman sent one bullet in tho direction di-rection or the suspects, but the rain or lead had no errect except to make tho men run Taster. The rellows ran toward Lincoln avenue and Into Electric alley, whero thoy were lost sight of. In front of tho Marion hotel the officers were able to borrow an automobile and with the. car sped to Grant avenue. A man was seen running across Grant avenuo and he was captured by the officers. This was Creegan. Creegan is a oung man, not more than 22 or 23 years old. He states that he is an electrician by trade and that he had known tho man with him in the room but a short time. He gave no reason for his hasty and un-dlgniried un-dlgniried retreat Trom the room, oth er than that he was arrald or being 'sloughed." Ho admits that the man who was with him is a crook, but says that he has never "pulled off anv jrbs with him." Tho room which was occupied by the men was searched but brought little to light that would assist In Identifying either the men or their real occupation. A bundle of clothing was found where it had been dropped bv the men in their flight. The bun-dlo bun-dlo gives no clue. The police are still searching Tor (he missing partner of Creegan and it Is hoped with his capture the officers offi-cers will be able to learn the real identity of the jneu and the cause of their flight All'offorts at pumping Creegan hae been without results. |
