Show SALT LAKERS ON A RABBIT HUNT Salt Lake, Jan. 29. Four thousand rabbits woro killed yesterday b- 125 Salt leakers, who went to Roicll, not far from Promontory, on tho old Southern Pacific track. The nim-rods nim-rods had a special train which left here shortlv after 7 o'clock and returned re-turned at 10. in last night. Farmers eagor to have the rabbits destroyed and also attracted by tho threo-cent bounty mot the hunters and took them in wagons to tho best hunting places. A groat circle was formed and the rabbits driven to the center, whore they were destroyed. H. L. Finch said that ho saw a flock of not less than 500-snge hns. but as this is tho closed season the birds were unmolested Aftor the farmers had delayed tho hunters' return by aBklng them to wait until thoy cut tho ears from tho rabbits so thoy could collect the bounty tho bunnies were thrown into the baggage car. Each huntor when ho arrived in Salt Lake took as many as he wanted, but thousands wero left over. Tho news that they were bo-ing bo-ing givon away soon spread among the small boys In tho vlclinity of the Short Line depot and until far into the night youngsters loaded down with rabbits wore seen trudging to the homes of their parents, uncles and other relatives |
