He recalled tho appearance and action of a man who had been standing near him at the bar. Thlb man he believed had stplen the timepiece time-piece from his pocket He located tho man in the Montana loan office and accused him of the theft When he accused him of stealing the watch a fight ensued which, however, wa3 stopped by the proprietor of the pawnshop. One of Hall's friends proposed that they hold tho suspect until an officer offi-cer could bo summoned and the man vaD accordingly kept a captlvo in tho doorway of the loan offlco while futile offorts were made to call tho police station by telephone. It was ,f$und impossible to connect with the station sta-tion and after about fifteen m,lnute3 had elapsed a friend of the suspect appeared upon the scene. A light followed fol-lowed in which tho man whoso watch was thought to have been stolen and his companion were quite badly boat-en boat-en up. The man suspected of tho theft and the man who had rescued him from his captors by tho use of his flats made their oBcape Not until the trouble was all over and the crowd had dispersed was an officer found. Borne Investigation proved that the trainman had not lost his watch, but had left It with tho proprietor of tho saloon. It was also found that tho tolephone at the police po-lice station was out of order and could not bo rung. The defect was corrected. |
