This simple measure was Mr. Purdv's masterpiece of public sorvice. It gave New York a sew view of the taxation of roal estate. Mr. Purdy looks more like an eminent em-inent statesman than the head of a tax commission and his education and culture are thoso of a statesman. He Is a graduato of Trinity College. Harvard, tho son of a clergyman, and a man who has made his own way from the bottom to tho top.
