Show MAKING" GARDEN OUT OF NEVADA DESERT That Nevada can ralso prize winning win-ning grains and fruits as well as sagc-hrush sagc-hrush higher than a man's head, is demonstrated at the Four-State Fair in the booth of the Pacific Reclamation Reclama-tion company of Metropolis. Nev., tho new town that is attracting so much attention from land buyers at the present pres-ent time. The exhibit of thq Metropolis company com-pany at the fair proves that land In that sertion of the Sagobrush state can produce cighty-clght bushels of j oats to tho acre, and forty-fivo bush-. j ola of Turkey Red wheat to tho acre, hosldos growing all kinds of vegetables vegeta-bles and Tiajdy fruits. When the prize man had finished his work at tho Nevada booth jester-day jester-day the following awards iad been pinned onto the exhibit: Sliver prunes, third prize; Climax prunes, first. Wolf River apples, second; sec-ond; Alexandria apples, first; sheaf select oats, first; general display, third sweepstakes; Maiden Blush apples, ap-ples, second; sheaf, Turkey Red wheat. Metropolis is locatod In a fertile valley about a five-hours' ride from Ogden. The Southern Pacific railroad rail-road is building a branch to the town from Tulasco, eight miles away on the main line. Tho Western Pacific also strikes tho place. Metropolis Is probably prob-ably the first town in the country that possessed a water system before It had a railroad station or a hotel. The water sy6tem thero has just been completed by Corey & Johnson of Ogden. Og-den. Tho hotel will be completed In about two months, it Is expected, and the Southern Pacific will havo Ks tracks into the town before long. Tho best artesian water abouuds in Metropolis and vicinity. Tho climate I3 attractive. Numerous sales of land In the new town and immediate territory havo recently re-cently been made to Ogden Investors. H. J. Siegel Is general manager of the Pacific Reclamation company; J. W. Woolf is land commissioner, with J. B. Crapo as his assistant. The latter lat-ter has been at the Four-Stato Fair in. charge of tho company's splendid exhibit. |
