Show M REPUBLICANS, LOOK TO YOUR GUNS. B !The city Republican executive committee 'of Ogden has called M t primary of the party for October 10, at which time all Republicans M are invited to cast their ballots for the men who shall bc the party's m choice at the primary elections. M Do the people understand the meaning of a Republican primary? m Many people have asked so many questions that we fear some H' do not understand the situation at all. B Under the new law, Ogden City will not have a mavor and citv M council after January 1, but will have three commissioners, who H will take the place of the present city officials. H One of the commissioners will be known as mayor and the three 1 1 commissioners will perform the duties of the present mayor and city H council. H ' On Ociober 24 a primary election Will be held, at which elec- M, tion nil the candidates will be on one 'ticket without the name of H any party or other designation that may indicate to what party the Hj candidates belong. All the candidates for mayor commissioner will H be together, one name following the other, thus: m FOR MAYOR COMMISSIONER. John Jones' H Jaines Johnson. H Henry Wolf. H Steven Smith. M Simon BrowfV. H , Tlie vote"r will place liis cross affcr trte name of h'is choice H t Likewise Vill appear the names for other officers. The two'per- m tons receiving the higlicst v6lc for ecTi olfic-o will be the only two B: names that can be voted for on .election day. Hr ft m&y turn out that a Socialist Hnd a Democrat will receive the iighest vote for mayor at the primary election. If so there will be no Republican candidate that can legally be voted for on election day. Now in order that the Republicans wilHiavo a candidate on November No-vember 7 the Republican committee has called a primary election of Republicans only, at which primary the Republicans will select their own candidate to be voted for at the regular primary election provided pro-vided by law'. v Instead of having a Republican convention with delegates from each district, the Republicans will vote their, choice tor each office instead of electing delegates to pick' the candidates. This, We think, makes Hie matter plain. Every Republican who wants his name considered needs only to hand his name to the secretary or chairman of the Republican committee, stating wliich office he desires and he will bo placed on the ticket, provided this is done before 5 o'clock p. m., Saturduy, September 30, 1911. If any person does not seek office and befriends be-friends want him to run. 25 Republicans can request that his name bo placed before the Republican primaries, providing such Republican docs not object to the use of his name. Here is tho opportunity now for the people to have their own say about who shall be the Republican candidates. There will be no packed conventions of delegates now. The people's choice alone will win. Originally, it was not even intended to have the parties select candidates. But that plan was abandoned when tho governor would not consent to the "recall" in the new commission form of government. govern-ment. Three men to run the city without the "recall" gives them unlimited un-limited power without the people being able to call-them to an accounting ac-counting before the term of office expires. Therefore, it is the duty of some political party to be responsible for themen elected as com-imissioncrs com-imissioncrs of Ogden. To elect three men without party responsibilities will give them power to do as they please, without restrictions. If the "recall" were a part of the commission form of government, as it is in other cities where the commission form has beeri adopted, then the people peo-ple could "recall' the commissioners. That alone would make them responsive to the best interests of the people. Without the "recall-" the parties should pluce their choice in the field. Let people of all parties take hold of the matter promptly and give Ogden three good men as commissioners. |
