Show jj IMPORTING GIRLS FROM TI1IS STATE Goldfleld, Nov, Sept. 26. George Reeves, proprietor 0f a dance hall in the tenderloin district, and his alleged wife, Jessie Reeves, were placed under arrest today by United Slates Marshal R D. Goode. The prisoners are charged charg-ed with having imported a girl, Amy Radtike, from Salt Lake City to become be-come an Inmate of Reeves resort. The Radtako girl came here two monthB ago and made complaint to the sheriff and district attorney that she had been misused by Reevos and was being held practically In slavery. Owing Ow-ing to her refusal to testify against Reeves and the fact that conviction could not be secured without her evidence, evi-dence, it was finally .agreed that she should return home, tho expenses of tho trip being paid by the Reeves. Lator, two other girls came-here under un-der similar circumstances, but as in tho former case, refused to testify againot Reeves. In the latter cases Reeves was again forced to pav them back. He was warned that further violations of the law would result In his arrest It was found, however that he was continuing negotiations for more girls from Utah and complaint com-plaint was entered with the United States district attorney That official, it is understood, ordered an investigation investi-gation and tho Radtake girl was fore, od to make the complaint. |
