H M Roald Amundsen, describing his 'trip to the South Pole and H jiis arrival at the spot determined by observation to be the Pole, H "In the afternoon we passed 88 degrees 23 minutes. Shackle- H ton's furthest south was 88 degrees 25 minutes All camped and H established our last depot depot No. 10 From 88 degrees 25 min- H utes the plateau began to slope down very gently and smoothly H toward the other side.
