Show EXPRESS COMPANIES IN NIED OF PITY Chicago, Sept. 19. "If some express ex-press companies today can make net from 3 to 5 cents out of a gross $1 j charge, thoy are doing woll." This statement was made yester- j day by C. F. Taylor, general super- intendent of the United States Express Ex-press company, In Chicago, In an address ad-dress before members of the Chicago Transportation association. Mr. Taylor Tay-lor made a splendid defense of the ! express carriers and refuted a number num-ber of charges that have been made ( against them relative to exorbitant charges and high handed methods. , "Some express companies." he declared, de-clared, "are making a hard struggle . today to earn enough net to pag moflest, dividends to their stockhold- , ers and not dig into their surplus or Impair their high flqancial standing.
