Show MESSENGER BOY STRUCK BY AliTO 1 Chester Drake, a messenger boy, I riding a bicycle, collided with J. W. D Barker's automobile shortly after noon today near the corner of Wash- Ington avenue and Twenty-fifth fl street, resulting in breaking tho R wheel Into small pieces an-1 somewhat R injurlug the boy about the head and 9 body The Injuries, however, are not H of u serious nature. As Barker approached the curb, near Culley's drug store, young Drake and another boy came along on bicycles. bi-cycles. Mr Barker sounded his gong and slackened the speed of his machine, ma-chine, but the hoy turned his wheel j toward tho automobile Instead of away, and before Mr. Barker could stop, the auto struck the young man's wheel and threw the rider headlong under the automobile. The front wheel of the automobile passed over Drake's shoulders, squeezing squeez-ing him so completely that he lost his breath for an instant. He Jumped up after the wheel passed over him and stated that he was not hurt. Mr. Barker states that he did everything ev-erything possible to avoid the accl- i dent and he regrets that the boy fell under the machine. He sounded his j gong loudly, and, as soon as he ob- I served the lad turning his wheel to- ward the machine, ho reversed tho en- gine and tried to bring the machine to a sudden standstill. I I Tho messenger boy took his bicycle to the shop for repairs and returned to his work. His head and shoul- j tiers are bruised, but he said he felt no bad offects of the accident, except that his head aches slightly. nn . |
