Show TOURIST TRAVEL ILLjlTilE Utah -will lose absolutely nothing by the action of the Rock Island and the Burlington not to run through cars from Chicago through this city to the Pacific coast via the Salt Lake Route, the Western Pacific and the Southern Pacific, according to the statement of local railroad men made last night. The action of the two companies in refusing to further operate their cars to the coast was the result of a division divi-sion of rates. Tho eastern roads wanted the big ond of the $50 fare and tho western roads refused to submit. sub-mit. Effective September 19, the Rock " Island and tho Burlington will no longer operate through cars to the coast, but effective September HO, nnd without the missing of a single train or losing a single car, tho western west-ern roads will still be handling through cars from the east. The action ac-tion of the Rock Island and the Burlington, Bur-lington, however, did not affect in tho least the through train of the Salt Lake Route, the Los Angeles Limited, Lim-ited, -which operates between Chicago Chi-cago and the coast, and return, nor did ' It lose the standard .sjeoper from Denver Den-ver which is attached to the American Ameri-can express. The only thing that this road lost was a tourist sleeper operated oper-ated over the Burlington, and this will be replaced on September 20, the day following that on which Eervlce with the Burlington ceases, by tho operation of a tourist sleeper via the Milwaukee, Union Pacific nnd Denver r- Rio Grande, so that the service on that road will be as good as It is now Neither will the Western Pacific Pa-cific or the Southern Pacific lose anything any-thing by the action of tho Rock Island Is-land and the Burlington Official announcement was recotvdd yesterday yester-day aftprnoon that, effective September Septem-ber 20, the service which had formerly former-ly been operated over these two roads from Chicago to the coast would be operated over the Northwestern from Chicago to Omaha, oyer the Union Un-ion Pacific to Denver and over the Denver & Rio Grande to Ogden to connect with the Southern Pacific. Local railroad men say that the service ser-vice will be as good, as any that hris been furnished In the past. |
