Show MONEY IN OGDEN FRUIT LANDS. There is money in peach lands in the Ogden district. When an acre of land produces $350 in revenue, leaving a profit of $250 in a season, that land is cheap at $1500. Where-is-that land? About nine miles southwest of this city, in the Clearfield peach belt. Two years ago Jacob Jcnsen of the Hcaly cafe, purchased 71 acres of laud, paying $12,500. This season, from nine acres of peaches on that place, he has marketed four carloads, receiving 53 cents a box from eastern biryers and now has three more carloads ready for shipment. Estimating 113-i boxes to a carload, the nine acres of peaches have returned a big, percentage of the purchase price of the entire 71 acres. In addition to the peaches, there arc 20 acres of apples, including Jonathans and other varieties, which thrive in this part of Utah. From the trees that are in bearing, $400 an acre net will be obtained. Last spring Mr. Jensen used smudge fiots in his orchard and he attributes his success this year to that method of fighting frost, as the year before his trees were frosted and he gathered only a small crop of fruit. - There is no fruit district in the United States that can show better returns, over a period of years, than the Ogdcii peach belt. |
