Show JOHN B. MELDRUM Goes via the Razor Route to that Land From Which no Travaler Pti(rni, John B. Meldrum, of Provo, commited suicide Tuesday morning by cutting his throat with a rr.zor. The particulars are as follows: Siiadrack Jones, brother-in-law to the deceasel, arose between four and five o'clock Tuesday morning to feed his horses and when he reached the hay stack he discovered a man lying on the east side of it. The man's clothing was j allbtsmearcd with blood, and Shadrack tried to aionse him, but failing to do so, he ran to the honse and called his father. He then called several of the neighbors who immediately repared to the spot and epsayed to discern who the stranger was, but none seemed able to tell-Finally tell-Finally John Twelves, after scrutinizing the features of the man for a few moments mo-ments exclaimed; "That looks like John Meldrum!" This waa like & revelation to the little knot of men but all recognized recog-nized truth 03 the assertion. Tho body was then lifted and carried into the granary and Dr. Pike was som-mcued. som-mcued. The man was in a semi-conscious state when the doctor arrived and remained so until the wounds were dressed. An examination showed that his throat was cut immediately over the 'Adam's apple" and through the back of the throat. After be'ng taken home he talked quite frequently and appeared to be quite strong. It was said that he wonld recover, but at 3 o'clock in the afternoon after-noon a'b-r a hi ief struggle he expired. As soon os he was dead the coroner was noliUed. He summoned a jury and au inquest was held. They returned a verdict that the deceased came to his deat'j by cutting his throat with a razor. No cause is given for the rash act, but a number of rumors are afloat, one oL them being that he had some family trouble. |
