Show MILFORD ELEMENTARY SCHOOL NOTES The music department of the Mil-ford Mil-ford elementary school is now getting into working order. The work is being be-ing directed by Mr. Morris of the high school music department. The school has been divided into two sections sec-tions with three grades in each section. sec-tion. The first, second and third grades have their music period in the morning, and the fourth, fifth and sixth grades have theirs in the afternoon. after-noon. The mslc work is being correlated cor-related with the other work of the school, for the purpose of giving it the proper setting. As a result or this correlative work the school gave a program to commemorate the birthday birth-day of James Whitcomb Riley. The birthday coming on Sunday, October 7 th, made it necessary to give the program on the following Monday. Following is the program: Song, "October," by the School One of Riley's poems, "Almost Beyond Be-yond Endurance," by Albert Thiessen Piano solo, by Ruth Elmer One of Riley's poems, "Little Orphant Annie," by Maurine Hanks Riley stories and incidents from the life of Riley were told by Mr. Morris Piano solo, by Mildred Barton One of Riley's poems, "The Raggedy Man," by two of Miss Huish's second sec-ond grade girls Riley's poem, "When the Frost is on the Pumpkin," was read by Mr. Wilkinson Piano solo, by Alice Wynaught Riley's poem, "Our Hired Girl," by Christie McLeod The school sang Riley's poem, "There, Little Girl, Don't Cry" One of Riley's Bear Stories was read by Mrs. E. B. Johnstone The school sang "The Frog Song." ' The following program was given by the low grades: Song, "October," 1st, 2d, 3d Grades "Raggedy Man," Second Grade Song, "Star-Spangled Banner," Third Grade Boys Talk on Life of Riley," MIsb Huish Song, "There, Little Girl, Don't Cry," 1st, 2d, 3d Grades "Little Orphant Annie," Trilba Davis "America," 1st, 2d, 3d Grades We are very pleased to say that the children took an active interest and did all that they were asked to do with a will that insured a hearty applause from the listeners. Mrs. Lafea, who is teaching the fifth grade, gave a talk on "The Teaching of Geography in the Elementary Ele-mentary School" to the teachers in their regular weekly teachers' meeting meet-ing this week. Next Tuesday afternoon at 3:30, Miss Evans will talk to "the teachers on "The Sense Training of the Child." Any parents who are interested inter-ested in this part ot the training of their children will do well to call and hear Miss Evans' talk on this subject. sub-ject.
