Show NO TIME TO SPLIT HAIRS MANY of the newspapers feel that the Government ought to pay for space advertising the second Liberty Bonds. No doubt the point is weil taken, and probably the' newspapers are the victims of discrimination, since many of the other expenses of the sale are cheerfully borne by the treasury department. But the News is not inclined to become be-come excited over the matter. We are all giving to the Government these days. There will be more to give and the pinch will be harder as the war advances: ad-vances: It is hardly the thing to think or talk of dollars in relation to our duty so far as the war is concerned. The fathers and ntothers of the land are . giving their sons freely upon the altar of democracy, and these sons are offering offer-ing the supreme sacrifice of life itself. The Government has a great many problems these days, and we would not add a feather's weight to the burden. If the Government wants any free advertising the News is ready to respond re-spond to the draft. It is a little thing to give in comparison to that which others give. If the Government wants a little more money for second-class postage we have not the heart to argue the matter. The Government is going to get something from us in some form or another anyway, and it doesn't mat- ter much just when or how. As long as it goes to the Government we are satisfied. satis-fied. No form of taxation ever devised is entirely equable, but what's the difference? dif-ference? This is not the time to split hairs. We all want to lick the kaiser, and so far as this newspaper is concerned, con-cerned, it is ready to respond so long as the call is within our power to meet. Hemet (Cal.) News. n |
