Show MILFORD LOSES STOCRSHIPMENT Milford needs some stock scales. Did you know that thir- ty thousand sheep had to be driven to Marysvale recently to be weighed before loading for Eastern shipment? For the lack of the inexpensive conven- ience for weighing Milford , is losing a large volume of busi- ness in the 'aggregate. There used to be a stock scales at the stock yards but it is out of com- mission. There is every other . convenience necessary for hand- ling these large shipments of stock here. The trade that such an enterprise enter-prise brings to any town in the course of a year is considerable. Certainly Cer-tainly if the Salt Lake Route officials realized that this business is going to other roads because of the lack of this simple convenience there would be a rebuilding or repairing of scales to keep the business here. Why don't the business organizations of Milford co-operate with the railroad to remedy this lack? Since writing the foregoing we have learned that the shortage of cars and equipment for .handling the stock business may be largely responsible re-sponsible for this lack of interest in the stock shipping business. The railroads are taxed to the limit to care for the passenger, government and perishable freight business. Nevertheless the stock has to be shipped and is shipped and Milford might have the business if facilities wore furnished. There are twelve thousand head of sheep at Lund now waiting for cars for shipment. Enough cars after ten days or so have been secured to carry ten per cent of the bunch, and the others must wait awhile longer. |
