Show MILFORD SEAMAN HELPS RETURN VETS FOR DISCHARGE Vernon Ernest U'Ren, seaman, second class, USNR, of Milford, .Utah, served during the war. on the attack transport USS Barnstable Barn-stable which saw action from Guadalcanal to Japan, and which is engaged at the present time in serving with the "Magic Carpet" fleet, helping to return high-point veterans to the states. More than 250 aircraft carriers, battleships, cruisers and transports trans-ports have been assigned to the "Magic Carpet" fleets which is picking up prospective dischargees from various points in the' Pacific. Pa-cific. The Barnstable, while assigned to occupation tasks, made two runs to Japan from Sept. 20 to Nov. 1, the first from Lingayan Gulf, in the Philippines, to Waka-yama, Waka-yama, Honshu, and the second from Mindanao, Philippines, ' to Hiro Wan in the Kure area ' of Honshu. |
