Show LIVESTOCK ! Dropping of points on all meats stimulated an active demand for : most classes of cattle at the Los I Angeles stockyards, and with a moderate decrease in supplies the j general market showed a strong j I to higher trend. Medium to good j steers and heifers closed strong to i 25c higher for the period while j i similar grades of cows worked i ' 25c to 50c higher. Utility canner and cutter cows, however, met with slower outlet than recently j and values were barely steady to 25c lower. j Two loads of choice 1231 lb. steers brought $18.60, the overall West Coast ceiling, while bulk of medium me-dium to good steers cleared at $15 to $16.75, with a few loads and odd lots at $17 to $17.75. Medium Mexican Mex-ican and Brahman steers sold at $13.50 to $14.75, with common kinds down to $13 and under. Several loads of medium to gocd heifers sold at $13.50 to $15.50 with odd head up to $16. Medium and good cows sold at $11.25 to $13.50, with one load reaching $13.60 and odd i head to $13.75, these classes showing show-ing almost total recovery of losses , registered early in November When : commercial cows were a drug on j the market. Common cows largely $9.50 to $11, cutters $7.50 to $8.50 and most canners $6.50 to $7.25. A few shells down to $5.50 and lower. Most bulls $9.50 to $11.50; a few good fat bulls $12 to $13.50. Calves strong to 50c up, medium to choice slaughter kinds going at $13 to $15, including one load of 467 lb. Arizona Ari-zona calves at the top end of the range. Stackers and feeders continued con-tinued in good demand with little change in price levels. Good fleshy feeders sold at $14 to $15; stock-to stock-to $13.50; feeding heifers $11 . to $12.50 and feeding cows $7 to $9.50, a few lots above the latter figure. Most hogs sold steady at ceiling prices but some big weights, underweights,, un-derweights,, sows and stags drifted 50c or more lower. Good and choice barrows and gilts largely $15.80, the ceiling. Sows and stags $14.50 to $15.05. Feeder pigs tended lower with most sales centered at $18 to $20; one lot light weights $21. Very few sheep or lambs offered. Undertone of market steady with best lambs eligible to sell around $15. A deck of goats and a part deck of common thin ewes sold at $2.50. |
