We painted our cupboard red and green. We made it out of boxes. It is for our books. Lea Mae Smith. We are going to have an Easter trip. It was too bad weather to go. We are going to stay in the room and have our lunch. Bert O'Leary. We have a new boy in our room. His name is Vance Singleton. He came from Las Vegas. We have 32 people in our room now. Dolores Do-lores Bradl'ield. We had an Easter play. The Faster chickens are going to give it. They all have parts to say. .Maurice was the Easter Bunny. Marie was the little girl. FIRST and SECOND GRADE We have a new boy in the second grade. His name is Charles Singleton. Single-ton. Charles came from Las Vegas. vVe are happy to have Charles with us. Virginia Lyman. Our house is finished. We have nninted it. We have narjered it. We have made furniture. The furniture is painted green. Joyce Baum. Charles Baxter went to Salt Lake this week. He went to a green house. He saw many pretty flowers. He went to the museum too. He saw many things there. Kendall Dawson. SECOND GRADE Dr. Shannon is going to vaccinate vacci-nate for smallpox April 1. He will be at the grade school. Norman Mastros. We had a spelling test. We had 28 words. Eight people passed above standard. We are going to have a standard arithmetic test too. Doreen. We are going to build a bookcase book-case out of orange crates. When we have it done we will paint the book case. Then we will put the books in it. Reed. We made an Indian book. We have designs in our book. We have Indian homes. We have Indian blankets. It has Indian tools and weapons and two Indian poems in it. Ray. Mrs. Bond said we were going on a Easter party but it was too cloudy. So we will have to go to the music room. We are going to play the band and dance. I hope we will have a good time. Patsy Leech. THIRD GRADE Jimmie Bear Once there was a bear named Jimmie. He lived in a den. It had strong iron bars. All the other bears that lived with jimmie jim-mie were not as handsome as he was. Jimmie was a black little bear. He ate honey and bread. When he was little he lived on a farm in New England. There he learned many tricks. When he was sent to the zoo he could only remember re-member to do five of them. Ann Marie Outzen. Our class was keeping track of Miss Earhart's hop around the world. She crashed so now she doesn't have to write anything more in the news paper. We have kept track every since she planned to fly around the world. She said it was a good thing she did not crash at Howland Island. Dorothy Canipeau. Lieutenant Hamilton visited our room Tuesday, March 23rd. He brought a friend along with him. Lieutenant Hamilton told us all about aviation. He showed us a propeller, a helmet and some goggles. gog-gles. We asked him some questions ques-tions and he answered them. He has a private plane. He told us his experience. It was very interesting inter-esting and good. Eugene Hickman. Hick-man. Lieutenant Hamilton has a private pri-vate plane. It is a high wing monoplane. We surely appreciated having him here. Kathlyn 0'-Learv. 0'-Learv. FOURTH GRADE We are studying about Father Escalante. I will tell you the route that he went and what he went for. He went to find a good trail from Santa Fe to California missions. He started from Santa Fe in New Mexico, went on up through Colorado, crossed the San Juan river and went on up and camped at the Green river in Utah. He named it "The Holy Cross". He started out again from Green river and went down through Arizona and went on back to Santa Fe in New Mexico. Howard Moody. We are studying about Escalante. Esca-lante. We have had about ten reports re-ports on him. He was a Catholic priest. He taught religion to the Indians. When they left they cried. They gave him an Indian guide. Bobby Young. j We are studying about Escalante. Esca-lante. We are interested in him i because he was the first man tw explore Utah. He was kind to the I Indians and they liked him. When ! ha left the Indians cried. Vaughn i Corbridge. Uucle Sam Plans For Some i Spring Building t Do you know that Uncle Sam is trying to help 10 Indian colonies. He is building new homes for them. There was an old Indian man and his family that have lived in a shack 25 years. They had to sleep on the damp earth. The grandfather lost his evesight because of dirt germs. Now he has a new home. It is clean. The government has also made the . houses so they are a low price. i Some children in Chicago and New York City are making a study of old houses. One school found that in many cases big families lived in two or three rooms. Little 1 families are living in big houses. 1 Betty Ruth Campeau. ' I FIFTH GRADE ; Pop Corn Sale j The Scouts have been selling pop corn balls over at the grade school. They made pop corn balls last ' night. They had some materials ! left over so they made candy and gave each Scout so much to take home. They are doing this to get more money for things they need. He used no and , won't which are negatives. Won't ; stands for will not as you see. i Ray White. ' j Leap Frog The fifth grade boys are play-j ing leap frog. Today we went into two groups and each group played alone. We had a lot of fun. Dern Outsen. Social Science We have divided into committees commit-tees now and have chosen activities activi-ties to work on in our social science. There are five committees and each one is about a different part of the Louisiana territory. Anna Christensen. SIXTH GRADE Our good friend Betty Hulsizer who lived in Compton, California, before comin'g here, is leaving for Los Angeles Sunday. We will miss her very much because she is very popular with everyone. We hope she will remember us as good class mates. Genevieve Parkinson. Today we had a program. Everyone Every-one was supposed to do something, but some of the kids didn't know anything to do. There were jokes, songs, riddles and other things. After that we played games iBill Keely. In our school we have some new ; fire equipment. They are the Fyr-Fighter Fyr-Fighter brand. One is placed at each end of the lower hall. Our school is quite well protected in case of fire.
