Show Big Planting and 1 Cleanup Project Is Being Planned Plans for a tree and shrub-planting campaign equalling or surpassing surpass-ing that of last year, to he combined com-bined with a clean-up and paint-up campaign with the enthusiasm of years gone by, are being worked on by a committee consisting of ' L. H. Parsons and J. M. Hughes,' representing the schools and W. B. Gardner, representing the town board of trustees, but the success of the idea, work on it as much as they may, is going to depend on cooperation with the other organizations organi-zations of the town and the people at large. Monday, April 12, has been designated, des-ignated, as Arbor day by Governor H. H. Blood and it is the intention of the school and town authorities to set out replacements of 91 trees which have been lost from the wholesale curb planting of elm trees which was accomplished last year. At least 516 of those plant- i ed at that time have survived and j are doing nicely, according to Mr. Ganrder, who has made a close I check of the entire lot. It is! planned to set out a quantity of i new trees at various .places in addi- j tion to the replacements. I Along with this planting of trees by the town and school, it isj hoped that local people will in-1 terest themselves in a comprehen- j sive planting of shrubs, with lilac,! Jbush honeysuckle and spirea as choices in the order named. All of ; these do well in this section, ac-. cording to Mr. Gardner, and if the ; people .will devote themselves to ! the planting of these and other i ! shrubs, together with trees and j flowers, this community ean soon be tranformed into one of the most beautiful towns in the state. Plans for the clean-up and paint-, i up campaign have yet to be worked out but it is likely that the Milford ; Volunteer Fire department, the Lions club, the town board and the schools will get together within a few days and work out plans that will- make it the big success of years gone by. I Goodness knows, it is needed this year, if ever! 1 o |
