Show ALFALFA FED LAMBS RETURN NICE PROFIT ACCORDING TO TEST The fact that lambs fattened on grain and alfalfa returned a value of $8.00 per ton for alfalfa hay led this winter proved an encouraging note to feeders who attended the 4th annual Lamb Feeders' day at Monroe recently. recent-ly. The beneficial results secured by the addition of beet molasses to a basal ration of barley and alfalfa hay were an outstanding feature of the test this year. The use of this sugary concentrate-fed at the rate of pound per head daily increased the rate of gain, decreased the cost of gain and materially increased the return per lamb. It was spread in the grain troughs being covered lightly with grain and proved to be a good conditioner as well as fattening i feed. Its chief value seemed to lie in the fact that it changed the growth-producing barley and alfalfa ration to a fat-producing combination. combina-tion. Richfield Reaper. |
