Show PROSPECTORS RUSH WORK IN FORTUNA DIST. ALL WINTER Heavy snow in the vicinity of Beaver has put most of the mining activities in this section at a standstill stand-still for several months. The side roads to the mines have been so heavy that it has been impossible to haul ore over them. Late in the fall, Thomas and Fay Harris, who are working the Harris claim a short distance west of the Utah Gobi Mining company's property proper-ty at Fortuna, built a log cabin and furnished it with a large stove and other necessities. They have worked continuously all winter despite the heavy snows and cold weather. "They have made great headway in tunneling, tunnel-ing, going several hundred feet into the mountain. They claim that they have taken out some good samples of ore, although they have had no assays made. They believe they are Hearing the rich ore vein which has been the object of their continuous drilling. William Nelson and James Frazer, working a claim lying between the Harris claim and Fortuna have worked work-ed at intervals during the winter. John Bestlemeyer, superintendent of the Utah Gold Mining company at Fortuna, who has been in Salt Lake for some time, is expected daily to return to the Fortuna property with plans for the spring work. It is understood un-derstood that much construction work will take place at the Utah Gold Mining company's property at Fortuna this spring. Local miners are of the opinion that mining in this section during the spring and summer will be met with successful results. E. Bissel, manager of the Sheep Rock mine in the North Creek section, sec-tion, recently shipped sevently sacks of high grade gold ore, but has not yet received returns from it. |
