Show LAW ENFORCEMENT. T. T. Burton, conir.ii.ssioner of public safety, Salt Liike City, said recently: "I believe that the real cause of the growing disrespect for law in this country is the jury system. We are filling our juries with men we would not trust with our business- They are men out of jobs, without professional or business responsibilities." That is undoubtedly true in many city courts. We believe it is not trui; in country courts, where the jury is ordinarily drawn from among the more substantial citizenry. ci-tizenry. In any event, it is a sweeping admission of failure to accept public responsibility. We, as a people, elect, or should elect, men to office who will see that the law is enforced. General dissertations, "passing the buck back ' to the people," who have delegated their powers, will do no good, nor will it bring criminals to justice. o |
