Show FAILED TO GET ANY CA8E8. Several weeks ago two young "bucks" came lu on the Sclplo stage and gave It out that they wanted to purchase a chicken ranch. They claimed to have sold out a chicken ranch north and realized several thousand dollars. Parties here were willing to sell und they were shown a number of places, but they failed to purchase, but In the meantime they "boozed" considerable; went hunting and saw the country aud spent a little money. Now It turns out they were "spotters," "spot-ters," hired by city officials to catch some of the alleged "booze" sellers. Thny were highly recommended by Provo officers as men who would and could do the work of catching liquor Kellers In prohibition towns. Our city paid them through tho city council $93.00, but they failed to get any cases, though they got "booze" In plenty as all will testify who met them here during their visit. Their report was that they got drinks, but could not purchase bottled goods, and they did not think they had a good case, and the city attorney thought likewise, and up to date nothing noth-ing has been done. Several Interesting stories can be told about their exploits while here. One Is that while out hunting they tried to "take In" an Innocent citizen on a poker game, bill lost what money they had. 8..r.0. Another is that they disagreed and fought between themselves, the smaller smal-ler one scratching the larger fellow up considerable. They stayed here about a week and then returned north. |
