The story printed on Saturday that General Leonard Wood, chief of staff of the army, at an Informal gathering of members of the house committee on military af fairs Thursday, expressed the opinion that Intervention In Mexico will be Inevitable and that it would take 200,000 American troops to patrol the troubled republic, brought no little chagrin to administration circles. General Wood himself and Secretary Secre-tary of War Dickinson were particularly particu-larly bitter In denouncing the clrcula tlon of stories of Intervention at this time, sutig they considered them calculated to work infinite mischief and endanger the lives of Americana in Mexico by Inflaming the natives and even to plunge the two countries Into war. i |
