Show Two Delta Flyers Make Forced Landing in Snow Leave Plane on Back In Salina Canyon Tex Coleman and Cloy Broderick flying the Delta Flying Club's Tay-lorcraft, Tay-lorcraft, made a forced landing on Monday about 11 a. m., in Salina canyon, and came out afoot, leaving leav-ing the plane there on its back. Tex and Cloy left Delta Saturday Satur-day to fly to Price. They were returning re-turning Sunday, but phoned that on account of the weather they would come in Monday. Monday the weather was. good, but the motor in their plane conked out, and they were forced to make the landing about 12 miles west of Emery in Salina canyon. When they landed the plane went up on its nose and turned over to fall on its back. Most fortunately for-tunately the snow was deep e-nough e-nough there to cushion the fall, so neither Tex nor Cloy were injured in-jured except for minor bruises and scratches. As' near as they could tell the plane was not injured, either, not even a tear in the fabric. fab-ric. The men were until 3:30 that afternoon getting out of there, and walked to a coal mine, where they warmed up and waited to come into in-to Salina at 5 when the miners went home. They phoned from Salina Sa-lina to Delta of the accident. Cecil Baker, president of the Delta flying club, and N. E. Ward, Lee.Callister and Eldon Jensen left Monday night for Emery, to help get the plane out. They figured ; they would have to take the wings off.make a sleigh for the fuselage, and bring it out that way. However, they ran into a storm in Salina Canyon, one of the worst blizzards of the year, and they were unable to even see the plane, let alone get it out. Coleman and Broderick are staying stay-ing on, in hopes to get to the plane Wednesday and bring it out. The others returned to Delta Tuesday Tues-day night. |
