Show 1 Delta Soldier Furloughs On French Riviera Nice, France, November 15 Corporal John W. Dewsnup, Delta, Utah, a mechanic with Headquarters Headquart-ers Company, 3rd Battalion, 143rd Infantry Regiment, 36th Division, returned to duty with the Army of Occupation after a ten-day furlough fur-lough in this internationally famed Mediterranean resort, now a vacation vaca-tion spot for American soldiers in Europe. Guests of the Army, GIs live in fashionable hotels and receive the same careful, courteous attention formerly lavished upon the Riviera's Ri-viera's pre-war clientele.. Corporal Dewsnup, 22 months in the Army, 10 months overseas, has served in France and Germany. He wears two battle participation stars on his ETO Ribbon for the Rhineland and Central Europe campaigns. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Dewsnup, Deseret, Utah. His wife, Mrs. Bessie M. Dewsnup, Delta. John W. Bolster, son of Mrs. Emma Ingam, Warren, Ohio, was honorably discharged today from the Army under the point system established by the War Department, Depart-ment, after more than 9 years of military service. Sgt. Bolster served 38 months with the Air Transport Command, stationed at Reno, Nevada, Palm Springs, Long Beach, and Stockton Field, California, Homestead Florida, Flor-ida, South Bend, Ind., and Romulus Michigan. Prior to entering the armed forces, he was employed by Republic Re-public Steel Corporation in Warren Ohio. His wife is the former Miss Nola Bunker of South Bend, Ind. Tom Watson brought us in for display a Jap rifle and bayonet, and a Jap sword. Those interested ma come in and see them: Garth Talbot is with the medical medi-cal department, with a hospital in the canal zone. Cpl. Alma J. Christensen, son of Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Christensen of Delta was discharged from the army ar-my on Jan. 20 at Fort Douglas. He served 5 months in the Philippines Philip-pines as company clerk with the 141st Repl. Bn, and is authorized to wear the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Thea-ter of Operations ribbon and victory vic-tory ribbon. Before entering the army on March 9, 1945, he was yard manager of the Tri-State Lbr. Co. at Milford. His wife, the former for-mer Donna Colby, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. F. L. Colby has been making her home at Delta. TI4 Arvil M. (Monty) King, son of Mr. and Mrs. T. L. King, returned return-ed to Great Falls, Mont., where he has employment. He was honorably honora-bly discharged from the armed forces Dec. 3, 1945 and i--authorized to wear the Combat Infantry badge, the American Defense medal, med-al, the good conduct medal, American Amer-ican Theater and African, European Europe-an and Middle Eastern theater ribbon rib-bon with camp legion awards for northern France, Rhineland and central Europe. He served with General Patch's 7th Army, 44th Division. Di-vision. William Lovell, Slc, of Lynndyl, Utah, was honorably discharged at Shoemaker, Cal. from the U. S. Navy Na-vy on Jan. 23. U. S. FORCES IN AUSTRIA Cpl. Robert L. Black.whose parents, Mr. and Mrs. N. C. Black, live in Delta-Utah, Delta-Utah, has been consistently outstanding out-standing is his spot at center on the Headquarters Battery, 392d Field Artillery Battalion, 42d Rainbow Rain-bow division basketball team. In the five games played so far, Cpl. Black has been high scorer each game, his scores per game ranging from 21 in the first game to 13 in the last game. In addition addi-tion to his scoring ability, he invariably in-variably turns in a brilliant floor game and defensive performance. As a tribute to his fine play and sportsmanship, he has been chosen captain of the team by the unanimous unan-imous vote of the members of the squad. Cpl. Black was inducted at Fort Douglas, Utah, on Aug. 4, 1943. After Af-ter a stay of six days there, he was transferred to the "Rainbow" Di-, Di-, -? vision in training at Camp Cruber Okla. He was assigned overseas with the "Rainbow" in January 1945. As liason Corporal, Blacl fought witth the "Rainbow" frorr Wingen, France, through Munich helping to capture such cities as Wurzburg, Schweinfurt, Furth anc Munich. He also assisted in the liberation of one of the worst con contration camps in Germany, the one at Dachau, just outside of Mu nich. His decorations include the Europe - Africa - Midlle East The ater ribbon with two battle paar ticipation stars. Prior to his induction, Cpl. Blacl attended Delta High School.when he starred in football, basketball and track, and made end on the All-State football team his senio year. He was graduated in 1943 and inducted shortly thereafter. His organization, the 392d F. A Rn., is part of General Mark W Clark's United States Forces ii Austria. Sgt. Carl Dorius, who got his nr my discharge from Ft. Douglas ii early January, visited in Delta las week with his sister, Mrs. Clayto: Stanley. M-S Dell Bradfield received wor that Delbert expects to be home a bout the middle of February. II is a paratrooper. Ray Andresnn also wrote tba he was on his way home from th south Pacific. He is the son c Mrs. Essie Anderson. Harlen Nielson left Tuesday t report back to duty. He has joir ed up for another year. |
