Show Farm Machinery Outlook For 1946 is Poor The outlook for farm machinery is very poor. Farmers by al! means should immediately check over their farm equipment and get it in repair as soon as possible. Even machine parts will be extremely hard to get. Don't wait until you want to mow the hay before you repair the mowing machine. Seed grains are also scarce. Be sure you have your seed supplies available as soon as possible. If you are going to raise chickens and turkeys, be sure that you have an idea where you are going to got your feed supply. Turkey growers plan on raising more than 12,000,000 turkeys this year. This is about 5 less than the record crop last year. In the western states, farmers plan on raising 18 percent less turkeys this year than last. Some areas expect as many or more than they did last year. The fall pig crop of 1945 was the third largest in twenty years. The 1916 spring crop should total about 52,000,000 head or 2 percent more than in 19 15 and 19 percent above the average of 1934 to 1943. Carry over stocks of feed grains at the end of the current feeding vear, will be below pre-war levels. Farmers should give some thought as to the number and quality of livestock they intend to keep during dur-ing 1946. |
