Show Hinckley Plans Beautification . Program in Town Sebrina Ekins, who has been appointed ap-pointed by Mayor Randall Swen-son Swen-son as chairwoman of the beautification beautifi-cation project in Hinckley, has chosen five others to help her on this committee. They are: Hugh Hilton, Raymond Finlinson, Harriet Spendlove, Gladys Carter and Walter Wal-ter Ekins. This group and Mayor Swenson, met at the home of Mrs. Ekins on March 3 afternoon and discussed plans for the campaign which is to be a three-months project. In March "clean-up" will be stressed; in April, the planting of shrubs, flowers and trees as well as the continuing of the clean-up, and in May paint-up will be the emphasized empha-sized projeet. A class has been organized to study the beautification problems. Under the direction of Hugh Hilton, the members of the class will be given directions in landscaping, in plott.'ng and care of lawns, shrubs, trees and flowers, as well as other hints in the beautification of homes and lots. At the present time the class is being held in connection with the MIA program on Tuesday nights. As a beginning, 'the class has had the privilege of having Pres. M. Ward Moody, who is one of West Millards most sucessful gardeners, gar-deners, as a guest speaker. Mr. Moody listed flowers, shrubs and trees which can be successfully I grown here, telling the necessary things to do for their culture. He showed colored films taken of the flowers in his garden and elsewhere. else-where. Other vistors will be brought to the class to lecture. In the near future, Dr. Stark, George Whorn- ham and a member of the exten-. sion division of the USAC, will visit the class and give individual helps on landscaping, by visiting the various var-ious homes in the community. Any individual who wishes to order or-der shrubs or flowers from the Porter Por-ter Walton company, may give their oredr to Pres. Harold R. Morris, Mor-ris, if done right away and receive a 25 percent reduction in price on these items. The beautification committee plans to make a weekly inspection inspec-tion tour throughout the town to see what progress is being made by the people of the community. The place in town which has been improved the most, the committee feels is the Stratton home, immediately imme-diately south of the postoffice. Mr. Stratton has done remodeling, painting0, fence building, planting of lawn, shrubs and flowers, making mak-ing from one of the worst looking places in town to one of the neatest. neat-est. This month all townspeople are urged to rake lawns, cover them with manure for a short time and rake again, leaving a fine filter of the fertilizer on the lawn to help its growth; to carry away all trash which has collected on the place, for many places in town have a I display of wreckage of unusable items which clutter the yards and I give a general appearance of slouchiness to the town; and to repair fences and build new ones. If anyone in town does not have any way of disposing of their trash, they may notify Mayor Swenson and trucks will be made available for use, or will come and dispose of your disposable garbage. The dump ground has been moved mov-ed 1-4 mile west of the original dumping grounds. Please observe the directions given by the arrows and do not dump east of the sign "dumping grounds." |
